Introduction


With sweat streaming down his red face, the young singer made his exit from the stage, where the crowd continued to roar. There his manager waited patiently for him to rest before beginning to talk. Something in his mustard gaze told the star this was a serious matter that couldn't wait.

"Do you remember Steven Ray?" he asked solemnly.

"You mean the mortician?"—the manager nodded—"Yes. Why?"

"You're going to be his funeral singer again, Andy. His son… passed away last week."

Andy wasn't sure how he was supposed to react to this. Brandon was one of his best friends… a single tear fell from his icy gaze on the floor, ruining his perfect eyeliner design. He sighed and swallowed to keep more tears from escaping.

"Yes, sir…" He left without another single word. Even the greatest of news couldn't raise his spirits now.
